Since I don't feel like reading all of these fucking posts,(SORRY SLUGGO) I will just say this. Smoking isn't illegal, and until that day comes I say smoke up any where you want.

Coming from a former smoker for 8 years. Which by the way next month will be two years off.

I bet the market would be the best arbiter to this. If you want to ban smoking in government buildings, fine. But honestly, if restaurant A caters to smokers, and restaurant B prohibits smoking, why can't the puffers head to A while wussies like me go to B? There should be room for all of us.

As for those ginks over at truth.com, I love their ad that claims cigarettes contain rat poison. I'd like to take one of those spoiled brats with too much free time and challenge them- I'll smoke one cigarette, you swallow one spoonful of rat poison, and we'll compare notes.

Congrats on being smoke free for two years Raven.

As a non-smoker, I realize that smokers feel shunned by the idea of public places being smoke free but...

Smokers have to realize that the non-smokers who inhale your second hand smoke are subject to th same health risks as the smokers themselves which really is unfair to the non-smokers.

This will happen in Cincinnati because it's worked in other cities and there will be mass support for it.

And yes it "working' in other cities. Just like San Diego where all the bars have designated outside smoking areas that have 3 times more people then inside the bars. And guess what, the none smokers are now complaining that the smokers are keeping them from enjoying the fresh air outside.

This issues is not about smoking, it's about the government invading our lives.

Smoking today, gum chewing tomorrow and having sex next year.

There are SO many things that I find personally offensive it's just not funny, but I don't think it's my place to call for a ban on women and girls who have the idea that just because they can stretch clothing over their skin that said clothing fits.

I'm SO tired of seeing fat abdomens, adorned with belly-button rings I could scream.

And for the normal comeback of how that adversely affects me -- it completely kills my appetite when I'm at the Kenwood Towne Center for lunch. (I work across the street, and if you know Kenwood, you know there's not much choice.)

Oh, and what about the morons who take their screaming children EVERYWHERE? Y'all know the folks I'm talking about. The ones who seem to believe that "NO" is akin to something they should apologize to Sluggo about.

And don't get me started on the idiotic SUV drivers, who bought into the idea that they own the road.

When do I get to ban them?

Last night GAE's daughter got her MBA. After, we went to a place called Wooster Tavern. It's a long narrow building with the door in the middle. You walk into the foyer and to the left is the none smoking bar and to the right is the smoking bar. By 10:00 PM the none smoking bar was empty and they were putting the chairs on top of the tables. We left at 12:30 and the smoking side was packed. If they had to survive on the none smoking bar, they would go out of business.

Reading through these three pages of postings it seems to me that there are two distinct camps. There are those who seem to feel that we should use social sanctions (laws and regulations) to help protect us from those who would do us direct harm by their behaviors (second hand smoke) and there are those who don?t give a damn about anyone but themselves and basically feel that they should be allowed to subject those around them to the fallout of their behaviors without having to take responsibility for their actions.

We used to call those latter types of folks bullies in grade school. I think they?re sometimes referred to as sociopaths in the adult world.

You create this dichotomy that isn't supported by what has been stated. We didn't state that people should be free to "harm" others without recourse. We just said the market should be the arbiter of this, not the Federal government. If I want to open a bowling alley, I should be allowed to determine whether it's smoking, non-smoking, or both. And the customers will determine whether I made the right decision. Say I'm smoke-free, and I don't do good business, then I change to smoking and my business takes off like a rocket.

Now, maybe you don't want to come to my alley because the smoke bothers you. Well, that's your business. But it's ridiculous for you to be able to arbitrarily force me to change my policies based on your whims, when the market (i.e. my customers) feel otherwise.

That is our point.
